The MG Hector is probably one of the most talked-about vehicles that is set to retail in India shortly. MG (Morris Garages) have already spoken in length about how it is a heavily connected car that is going to usher in a new level of motoring with its massive feature list. No doubt, being a new brand to make an entry in a market that is witnessing a slow down is a challenge, but from the looks of it, MG seems to have their gameplan in place and are looking at an aggressive scale of operations in the country.

Having said that, MG has been teasing the market with little tit-bits of information about the Hector and we got to learn more about it recently. In fact we now just about everything about it except for how it drives and what the pricing is (but we will have those details out by mid-June when we finally get behind the wheels of the Hector, so stay tuned).

With internet inside, the next-gen i-SMART technology in the Hector promises to deliver safe, connected and fun experiences with the biggest HD touchscreen in its segment at 10.4 inches. The Hector will also be the first car with a sophisticated 48-volt mild-hybrid architecture in its segment. With this, MG Motor becomes the first mainstream carmaker in India to bring 48V technology to the mass market segment.

From a feature standpoint the MG Hector has been launched with the country’s first 48V mild hybrid engine, making it an environmentally efficient as well as providing the vehicle with an additional 20Nm of torque when required. The Hector will be available in both petrol and diesel engines. The 1.5 litre turbo-charged petrol engine delivers 143 PS power at a peak torque of 250 Nm and will be available in both manual and automatic transmissions. Its 2.0 litre diesel engine will deliver 170 PS at a peak torque of 350 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6 speed DCT gearbox.
