In some instances, the software of another company would improve a user’s experience on Facebook -- the “like” button came from FriendFeed, for example. Viber has completely taken the ‘secret chat’ feature from Snapchat and integrated it to its platform.

Today, Facebook has brought the Snapchat-like stories format to its Messenger as well and has named it Messenger Day. Other times, Zuckerberg and co. Voice chat just came out for the Android app for WhatsApp, and is coming in the next few weeks for Apple iOS devices. But maybe more importantly than that is keeping the service reliable.

Twitter doesn’t ask your age when you sign up, but Facebook does, and on Facebook the minimum age requirement is a hard and fast 13. First, chats under secret conversations can only be read on those devices they actually took place on. Those sharing totals include 3.3 billion photos and 760 million videos sent inside WhatsApp every day, twice as many photos and three times as many videos as were sent one year ago.

Now, joining the bandwagon is Viber, a not-so-famous messaging app that was at one point of time quite famous for stickers and voice calling. All of which open up plentiful tracking/ad-targeting possibilities.

This new feature promises extra security, but it comes with its own set of drawbacks. To learn more about translation on Instagram, check out help.instagram.com.

As well as phone number and last seen data, TechCrunch understands Facebook will also be fed intel on a WhatApp user’s operating system, mobile country code, mobile carrier code, screen resolution and device identifier. Instead of swiping left or right to change filters as on Instagram or Snapchat, for example, you swipe up or down. want to bring more talented staff aboard or snuff out potential competition.

This focus on simplicity comes with a downside, however. The wording suggests this is entirely possible, although if a user has updated to the latest version of the app, which end-to-end encrypts all content, then their messaging content at least cannot be shared, so long as the person they are messaging has also updated.

For WhatsApp, that future is in voice. Second, secret conversations don't support content like GIFs, videos, payments and some other Messenger features.

And for brands, this means creating a platform which has everything thing a Gen Z-er would demand at one place. Sarafa says that WhatsApp's users share lots of media within the app, and he believes that will translate to Status as well. And this goes full circle to the question why this platform cloning begun in the first place. It’s the same number on Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Reddit, Snapchat and Secret, too.

The reasons for the acquisitions vary. There’s also a chalk marker in the drawing tools that is unique within Facebook’s family of stories products.

In the coming month, you’ll see a translation button on feed stories and profile bios written in languages different from your own. The Instagram community has grown faster and become more global than we ever imagined. The Instagram community has grown faster and become more global than we ever imagined. And we’re excited that you’ll soon be able to understand the full story of a moment, no matter what language you speak. As all the social media platforms are trying to copy one another, privacy of information has been one main confirm for all biggies, which is why Snapchat’s feature has been straight away lifted. Two separate developers asked the panel for a WhatsApp API so they can build apps on top of that platform, too — only to be denied.

They also have the option to put on an overlay of more than 5,000 frames, effects and stickers to those images and videos they upload. Apps that do one thing, and do it really well, are the social network's hedge against bloat and user burnout.

Other changes are more cosmetic — and, in some cases, appear to be different for difference’s sake. To learn more about translation on Instagram, check out help.instagram.com.A photo posted by Instagram (@instagram) on Jun 22, 2016 at 10:00am PDT

Now it's adding Status (Stories), too, a feature that feels like a more natural fit for services where users are used to sharing publicly, like Instagram. They do not want to miss an opportunity of losing a user to another platform, when they can offer it all in one space. Essentially, with Messenger Day, a user can share and upload pictures and videos on to Messenger. A fundamental feature of Stories be it Snapchat, Instagram or WhatsApp, is that they are short-lived. Not even the biggest media apps could come up with smarter ways to share information secretly, making us believe that innovation is almost dead in the ‘secretly sharing of information’ world.

It’s not clear from the WhatsApp blog post if other user data will be shared with Facebook. As such, the images and videos that go into Messenger will disappear after 24 hours.

For better privacy and security, users can make custom groups with whom they can share certain updates instead of keeping it public. According to TechCrunch, many other features available in Snapchat and other apps such as Face Swap and Paintbrush are missing in Messenger Day.

Instagram: Great things with photos, and better discovery. Instagram just doubles down on providing an awesome photo experience, Krieger says, where people (and celebrities) can use the core app, the new Layouts app, and Hyperlapse to do things with their images and share them in a way you can't do with any of the other apps.

The key, it turns out, is simplicity: Facebook and Facebook Messenger are only getting bigger and more complicated.
